Top Recycling Tips for Kids

November 15th is National Recycling Day! Here are 5 curated tips for kids 6 and under.

1. Make It Relatable To Your Area

The importance of recycling is clear but how do you connect that with your children? Showing them first-hand the impact recycling will have locally. If you live by the ocean, take a walk with them to the beach to talk about plastic waste ending up in the ocean. The more relatable it is to their surroundings, the more impact it will have.

2. The Recycling Game

3. Pack A Waste-Free Lunch

When making your kids lunches for November 15th, National Recycling Day, go for a zero-waste lunch and make it WITH your kids. While you are preparing lunch remind them of the importance of reusing versus throwing out. Prompt them with a few questions on if the items can be recycled or not.

Claire Gallant from Bite-Sized Kitchen offers age appropriate cooking classes for kids. Her blog is a great resource for everything relating to kids and food. We discuss some tips for packing waste-free lunch in our corresponding blog post which you can read here.

4. Read With Them

Children's Books about Recycling

There are many children's books that have bridged the topic of recycling. Story time can be fun and an educational way to get kids learning about recycling without realizing it.
